Nashville Rescue Mission

Two familiar songs. Two long nights. Two stories about what it means to finally be welcomed in.

The human truth

The holidays feel different when you have nowhere to go home to.

Holiday advertising is usually filled with warm windows, crowded tables, and doors opening to people we love. For someone without shelter, those same images can sharpen the ache of being outside them.

Nashville Rescue Mission asked for stories that could close that distance by letting viewers spend a few quiet minutes beside people instead of turning them into symbols. We wanted everyday people to feel the pull of empathy: to notice the person they might otherwise pass, and to understand how much a safe place can mean at the end of a hard night.

Victor Huckabee wrote and directed both films and illustrated the storyboards, working in partnership with 5by5 Agency and Lot 35 Productions to bring them to life.

Film 01 · Christmas

“I’ll be home for Christmas.”

A mother sings softly to her son from the front seat of the car that has become their home. The lyric is tender because she means it, but heartbreaking because there is no home waiting for them. They move through Nashville’s winter night until a different kind of home comes into view: light, warmth, and a door opening at Nashville Rescue Mission.

Sometimes hope is not a grand arrival.

Sometimes it is simply a door that opens.

Film 02 · Easter

“It is well with my soul.”

Through one dark night, a man carries everything he owns past the places where people look away. He sings an old hymn as the city moves around him. The words hold beauty and sorrow at once: peace rising from a life that offers very little comfort. By morning, he reaches Nashville Rescue Mission. The final chorus becomes less a performance than a breath of gratitude.

The response

The stories traveled. The feeling stayed personal.

Both films aired across the Nashville area, carrying the Mission’s invitation beyond the screen and into the holiday season. The Christmas film also reached more than 250,000 views on YouTube.

The number mattered because every view was another chance for recognition: a mother in a parked car, a man walking alone, and the quiet truth that homelessness is not an abstraction. It is someone’s night. Someone’s child. Someone hoping a door will open.

Every soul needs shelter.

From page to screen

Drawn by hand. Built together. Made to be felt.

The storyboards gave each film its emotional architecture before cameras rolled. From the smallest glance to the final open door, the production stayed focused on restraint, dignity, and the human being at the center of the ask.
