Lonely Planet
Helping a legendary travel brand move with modern audiences while keeping its print roots alive.
The assignment
A print icon learning to travel through screens.
Lonely Planet had decades of trust built through books, maps, photography, and the unmistakable feeling of planning a real trip. As audiences shifted toward digital discovery, the brand needed to keep that authority while showing up in faster, more flexible, more social places.
During Victor’s time as Creative Director, Brand, the work stretched across identity systems, marketing campaigns, creator programs, retail moments, YouTube bumpers, digital surfaces, print objects, and sales-facing materials.
The goal was not to make Lonely Planet feel like something else. It was to help the brand carry its editorial soul into a new era of screens, communities, partnerships, and campaigns.
The map
Three pressures, one brand system.
02 / Digital
Build for modern discovery.
Create systems that could move through social platforms, video, web, creator communities, and fast-moving campaigns.03 / Systems
Make it useful everywhere.
Help retail, editorial, partnership, and B2B teams work from a clearer shared visual language.Pathfinders
A community system for modern explorers.
Pathfinders gave Lonely Planet a way to connect with creators and travelers who were already telling stories in the places audiences spent their time. The identity needed to feel adjacent to the parent brand, but alive enough to carry its own community energy.
The system moved across marks, photography, mobile surfaces, social layouts, merchandise, and small physical objects that made the program feel real beyond the screen.

Books into campaigns
Keeping the book at the center while expanding the campaign around it.
The Cities Book and related marketing work show the balance Lonely Planet had to hold: the physical book still mattered, but the campaign needed to travel through digital, retail, outdoor, and social contexts.
This is where the print roots stayed useful. Strong covers, photography, typography, and tactile design gave the digital work something more substantial to orbit.

Print roots, digital motion
The brand could be held in your hand or move in six seconds.
Limited edition postcards, campaign objects, and small video bumpers each carried a different part of the same brand problem. Some pieces needed to feel collectible and tactile. Others needed to land in a feed before a viewer moved on.
Together, they show a brand system built for many speeds: slow, physical, editorial moments and quick, digital flashes of curiosity.

The strategic shift
The brand moved from destination authority to living travel culture.
Trusted guides, books, and editorial authority.
The brand already carried deep credibility through print, photography, maps, and practical travel knowledge.
Creator communities, campaigns, motion, and digital tools.
The work helped that credibility show up across modern marketing channels without losing the curiosity that made the brand matter.
Built across the organization
A brand is strongest when every team can use it well.
The Lonely Planet work was not one campaign or one object. It was an ongoing practice of helping a beloved brand behave consistently across editorial, retail, product, partnerships, social, and sales-facing needs.
